March 3 – Swing into Spring with Melbourne Community Orchestra

Event Description:

The Melbourne Community Orchestra will present “Swing into Spring: Music for Stage and Screen” on Wednesday, March 2nd and Thursday, March 3rd at 7:30 pm at the Melbourne Auditorium. The concert at 625 Hibiscus Boulevard will highlight works from ballet, opera, musicals and film. Tenor Fred Kilgallin joins the MCO to perform arias from Verdi’s most popular operas, Aida and Rigoletto. The musical journey begins with Orpheus in the Underworld by Offenbach and continues with themes of the beloved Prokofiev film score, Lieutenant Kije in the first half of the program. After intermission, the audience will be treated to selections from recent musicals and blockbuster film scores, including Wicked, Indiana Jones, and The Mission. Soprano Beth Green will lend her voice to Howard Shore’s Oscar-winning score to Lord of the Rings. “Swing into Spring: music for stage and screen” is the fifth of seven concert sets planned for the MCO Season, which runs from September through May. Melbourne Community Orchestra president, Dawn Brooks, knows this concert will have the audience humming.

“This is simply beautiful music,” said Brooks. “We’ve chosen some of the most beloved melodies of all time, from the Romantic period right up to the minute –to ensure our audience an unforgettable experience.”

Join the Brevard Art Museum for the premiere of Alter Ego on Saturday, March 12, from 7-10 p.m. in the galleries. Alter Ego is an exhibition of a collaborative nature. Brevard County’s highest achievers reveal their “other” side through the lens of professional photographers. The subject and the photographer join together to create an artistic portrait that is playful and revealing. Join the Council of 100 at the Red Carpet Preview and see for yourself, compare and contrast these “before” shots alongside intriguing “after” looks depicting the rarely seen side of the Space Coast’s most illustrious. Alter Ego stars such as: Andrea Bortner, Kelly Collazo Camirand, Dr. Ross Clevens, Carol Craig, Tim Deratany, Robin Willson Hattaway, Jose Hixon, Jackie Pantello, Maria Seelman, Nancy Scott, Jonnie Swann, and Ritch Workman.

The Alter Ego red carpet reception features shining stars, gourmet food & cocktails, a live auction, entertainment, and more. Of course, no red-carpet is complete without paparazzi, so expect the Museum to be a-glow with flashing photogs and star power.
