Safety Tips When Using a Hot Tub, Spa, or Whirlpool:

Always use a locked safety cover when the spa is not in use and keep young children away from spas or hot tubs unless there is constant adult supervision.

Make sure the spa has the dual drains and drain covers required by current safety standards.

Regularly have a professional check your spa or hot tub and make sure it is in good, safe working condition, and that drain covers are in place and not cracked or missing.

Check pool and spa drain covers yourself throughout the year.

Know where the cut-off switch for your pump is so you can turn it off in an emergency.

Be aware that consuming alcohol while using a spa could lead to drowning.

Keep the temperature of the water in the spa at 104 degrees Fahrenheit or below.

Pool Safety Checklist

Are pool fences, fences, gates, doors and windows that form the barrier fitted and maintained to operate correctly?

Are all safety barriers such as gates and doors not left open or propped open?

Is landscaping maintained to ensure that tree branches, pot plants, etc. are not climbable by young children to gain access to the swimming pool/spa?

Have you checked the general area surrounding safety barriers to ensure that chairs, boxes, ropes, pool pumps, clothes lines, dog kennels, children’s play equipment etc. are not able to be climbed by young children to gain access to the swimming pool/spa?

Have you inspected adjoining properties at the fence line to ensure that, over time, there has not developed potential hazards or climbable objects that may allow access by young children to the pool/spa?

Have you a supervision plan to maintain constant visual contact on children in the pool/spa area? Remember "Never take your eyes off".

If you are the supervisor and you leave the pool/spa area do you take children with you?
